Our Quick-Plant Fabric consists of 3.2 oz. polypropylene, which resists tearing, puncturing and weed penetration. It is striped every 12 inches to aid in plant alignment and is UV-stabilized to last for many years even in direct sunlight.
Spacing Details
Pattern Options
18" single-row spacing (1 × 18) is great for crops like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, full size cabbage, and Brussels sprouts.
18" double-row spacing (2 × 18) is also a good choice for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, full size cabbage, and Brussels sprouts.
10" three-row spacing (3 × 10) is a good choice for crops like swiss chard, head lettuce, kale, mini-cabbage, fennel, Chinese cabbage, bok choi, and collards.
8" four-row spacing (4 × 8) works well for crops like Salanova® lettuce, beets, raddichio, garlic, and onions.

Durability
Slight fraying? No fretting!
If you like the smoothness of the holes in our old fabric, you're going to love the super smooth holes in this new Quick-Plant Fabric! The only potential downside to these super smooth holes is that after multiple uses, the edges around the holes can start to slightly fray.
The image to the right shows what the holes may look like after approximately 5 seasons of use. The integrity of the holes remain uncompromised and the fraying will not extend beyond the "corners" of the circle. You can still expect to get 5-10 seasons of use before the fabric succumbs to UV rays.

We are a small family operation selling primarily our local farmers market as well as our road side stand. We began in a small backyard garden in 2018 and quickly outgrew the limited space. We moved to the family farm where we currently work around 3 acres.With the rapid expansion, time became a valuable commodity. Weeding is one of the biggest time consumers we have. We purchased 300 feet of the 4 x 8 quick plant fabric for the 2024 growing season. We used it primarily for our onion bed. We struggle with annual grasses like foxtail, crabgrass and goose grass. The 4 x 8 pattern was perfect for growing big onions. The fabric did an excellent job of controlling the weed pressure and left minimal weeding in the holes. Watering was much more efficient with very little wasted water. Water retention under the fabric was also improved. We had tried using the off the shelf landscaping fabric with hand cut holes. The off the shelf stuff worked ok for a while. The landscaping fabric deteriorated from exposure to sun and wind and ultimately disintigrated. The deer who walked through the garden would punch holes in the thin fabric with their sharp hooves. The Quick-Plant Fabrics heavy woven design stood up to the deer traffic as well as the elements. We had our best onion crop to date. We had to lift the Quick-Plant Fabric to harvest some of the onions from underneath as the onions were too big to fit through the pre-cut holes. We have ordered additional Quick-Plant Fabric with different hole patterns for the 2025 season. We are very impressed with the product and look forward to working with Farmers Friend in our next phase. We have applied for an NRCS grant and hope to add a Haven high tunnel in the near future
